Jurassic World: The Film Review

In 1990, I picked up a book at the library that looked interesting. On the back cover it said: “An astonishing technique for recovering and cloning dinosaur DNA has been discovered. Now humankind’s most thrilling fantasies have come true. Creatures extinct for eons roam Jurassic Park with their awesome presence and profound mystery, and all the world can visit them—for a price. Until something goes wrong. . . .
In Jurassic Park, Michael Crichton taps all his mesmerizing talent and scientific brilliance to create his most electrifying technothriller.” It was. Of course. Jurassic Park.
The film was released in 1993, and is one of my 100 Favorite Films. Since then, there have been 2 other films, The Lost World in 1997 and Jurassic Park III in 2001. Then nothing. No more films. No more books. I had to read and watch the existing books and films, knowing that a new film would be made, some day.
Now I can tell you about Jurassic World, the latest film in the Jurassic Park film franchise.

WARNING!!!! Spoilers Alert!!!! Do Not Read Any More Unless And Until You Have Seen Jurassic World!!!

  1. Jurassic World Trailer

Now, where were we? Ah, yes, my review. I had a blast, plain and simple. It’s everything I wanted in a Jurassic Park movie, and more. After 14 years, my 8 year old self is very happy, with many many dinosaurs and more action than most 3 action movies have. I was amazed most of the time, and I will have to see it 3-4 more times just to take in all of the details they have crammed into the film.
  2. There are many little bits that harken back to the first film. There is the old Visitors Center, with the banner that reads “When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth.” We even get a bits of Jaws when the Mososaurus gets fed. I’ll let you find the other bits, and they will make you smile just before you scream again.
In a nutshell, the film follows 2 young boys, who are the nephews of Clare, the park Chief Administrator, who is having a worse day than usual. Attendance is down, and new sponsors want more and better dinosaurs. The one she has is the Indominus Rex, a brand new hybrid dinosaur. Clare, worried about the pen that the new dino is housed in, asks Owen to take a look at the pen.
Owen is in the park, personally training 4 velociraptors to follow his commands and not eat him. He arrives at the I-Rex pen and they can’t find it in the pen. It doesn’t show up on infra red scanners, so of course, three guys go inside to see where it went. From here, the film gets turned up to 10, as the I-Rex makes its appearance that had the audience screaming in terror.
The Indominus Rex is hands down the nastiest, most dangerous dinosaur in movie history. An intelligent, viscous killing machine, the I-Rex makes a bee line for the main section of the park, where 22,000 people are on the menu for it. Along the way, it tears into several isolated dinosaur areas, either killing them or setting them loose.
  3. First Look At Jurassic World

Owen and Clare must find a way to stop the I-Rex before it gets to the tourists after the crack team of containment specialists are killed in less than a minute. The film’s pace keeps you on the edge of your seat for over 2 hours, and it never lets up. Each new scene ratchets up the tension a bit more, as new complications break open. I have to say that the climatic fight at the end has to be the best monster fight I’ve ever seen, and that includes every Godzilla film. It’s just that awesome. If you can suspend your disbelief enough to believe that dinosaurs can be made, then you will have a great time.

    Jurassic World stars:

Chris Pratt as Owen, In-Gen specialist. Works with the Velociraptors.
    Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire.
Irrfan Khan as Masrani, the new Owner of the park.
Vincent D’Onofrio as Hoskins, In-Gen Specialist, and the Bad Guy.
Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson as Clare’s nephews.
BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu.

The cast is very good, but the stand out is Chris Owen. He is going to be a super star. You heard it here first. Opie Taylor’s daughter Bryce has proven herself a capable actress in her own right, and this movie will help open more doors for her. But the real stars of the film are the dinosaurs, and there are almost 20 dinosaurs on display here. Who wouldn’t want to go to this place? I would definitely go, but I would go the day before this film takes place, when everything was safe. I’m no fool.
My Rating is 8/10. Jurassic World is the 2nd best film in the franchise. It is filled with action, humor and enough dinosaurs to satisfy anyone with a 10 year old inside of them. The official site is a blast. There are live cams of the park that are very real looking and lots of interactive things to do. I recommend it highly. http://www.jurassicworld.com/
P.S.- Just for the record, Jurassic World opened with the best domestic opening weekend of all time($208.8 million) and the largest worldwide debut ever($524.1 million).
